The slap heard around the world…
So by now we all know what happened with Chris Rock and Will Smith. This blog isn’t to explain what happened but the affect it had on me, a black man that admire Will Smith. We are all trying to understand why he did what he did or even if it was real or fake. Either way it happened and this is how I feel.
I grew watching “Fresh Prince” and that show helped me be the man I am today. I didn’t have a father or father figure around much, just my hard working mommy. Uncle Phil was that father figure. But Will Smith was a role model to me. From his characters he played in movies, his relationship with his family in real life and the things he did outside of that to help other people. I didn’t agree with everything he did but he was a great man to me.
When it pertains to fitness, Will Smith always was in great shape. From the show, the movies “iRobot” and “I am Legend.” I would tell clients, for motivation, if you had to pick a celebrity you want to look like, who would it be? For me it was Will Smith.
Will Smith was a motivator to look good physically but also mentally. He would have great motivational speeches about life, love and fear. Encouraging us to live a happy full life. I feel like fitness really starts with the proper mindset. So getting right mentally, will lead you to be right physically.
So when the Slap occurred I was actually heart broken. Maybe that’s a strong thing to say, maybe disappointed would be better. A side of me thinks and wants it to be staged or fake, like a publicity stunt. But the more I see, the more I know it most likely is real. Whatever caused this to happen, I hope he sorts it out. Thank you for inspiring me for all these years. Best wishes to Chris Rock and Will Smith.
